Okay, RAP. Suppose I was to buy a used Yamaha O2r with no cards in it
and wanted to interface it with a mac g4 running pro tools 5 (os9). What would be the best way to interface the console with the mac? thanks |

And how do I go from the outboard bridge to the computer? (I should have mentioned I have NO pre-existing pro tools set up.) thanks again |

Hi,
"John LeBlanc" wrote: Be aware that the ADAT cards Yamaha produced for the 02R are 20-bit. This is incorrect. From Yamaha's site: " MY8AT Eight ADAT digital format I/O (optical connectors) Features: Interface card for 01V, PM1D, DME32, AW4416, AW2816, SREV1, DM2000 and 02R96 MY8-AT Eight ADAT digital format I/O (optical connectors). Interface products with mini-YGDAI card slots to products with ADAT digital format. Specifications: Function Digital I/O Number of Inputs 8 Number of Outputs 8 Format ADAT Res / Freq 24-bit 44.1/48 kHz ----- !!! Connector Toslink x 2 " I have one of these installed in my AW4416, and can verify that it passes 24-bit audio to the PC via the RME HDSP 9652. If you are only getting a truncated 20-bit file, it's likely due to either your recording format or the interface (card) on the receiving end. Regards, Neil |

The Yamaha ADAT cards for the original O2R are definitely 20 bit. -- Regards, Vernon. -- Vernon Boyce, Soft Audio, , http://live.softaudio.com Live recording of acoustic music in Dublin, Ireland |

From Yamaha's site: (snip) Interface card for 01V, PM1D, DME32, AW4416, AW2816, SREV1, DM2000 and 02R96 Please notice that the Yamaha 02R is not on that list. The 02R uses the CD8AT YGDAI optical card, which is capable of processing only a 20-bit word length. It cannot handle 24-bit word length. I stand corrected! I was under the apparently mistaken impression that the YGDAI form factors were the same, and that the internal software determined compatibility with a card's capabilities. My apologies! Neil |
