Honestly I don't think it's a very practical arrangement and I would discourage you from doing it (and from hiring me). What is it that you want to accomplish? Is the 002 a real 002, or an 002R that doesn't have the control surface? And why would you want to use the d8b to control the 002R? Why not use the d8b to control the DAW directly? I know that people are using HUI (which the d8b with Version 5 software emulates) to control ProTools. Maybe you just asked the wrong question. |

Probably he wants the HUI Controller mode, and to use the converters to get into his 002 _Rack_ through lightpipe. I have wondered myself if using an old d8b, which are relatively cheap these days would be a cost effective alternative to a Procontrol (or HUI/Command 8). But it isn't what he asked. wondered myself if using an old d8b, which are relatively cheap these days would be a cost effective alternative to a Procontrol (or HUI/Command 8). It would certainly cost less, but it would leave a lot of the console unused for the amount of space it takes up. Version 5.1 of the d8b software (which you might have to buy if you got one without it) does have HUI emulation, but it's just like a real HUI - 8 physical faders (though you can switch them in banks). So that's a lot of desk space if you only use it as an 8-fader controller. The A/D converters and mic preamps aren't too bad but its digital I/O is limited to 44.1/48 kHz sample rate. Mackie makes some controllers that cost less than a used d8b and are probably more universal, and there are a few others. |

You'll need a couple of MIDI cables, at least one ADAT I/O card in the d8b (preferably an OPT-8, but a DIO-8 will do in a pinch). I'd suggest that you download the d8b Version 5 manual and give it a read. (an 11 MB PDF) http://www.mackie.com/pdf/d8bv5_om.pdf |
