Bob the correct sentence is :

"ich bin ein Berliner" ;-)

Correct in terms of quoting Kennedy, but incorrect in fact.

By my criterion "Ich bin ein Berliner" is formed correctly. We may say
"Ich bin Berliner" if Kennedy were a citizen of Berlin, but add "ein"
for figurative use.

It seems that you are right.

BTW I have a question for you Dave.
Bob Dylan is coming in my town by the begining of June. I cannot say that I
am a fan but my wife used to listen him long time ago...
I haven't heard anything for him since many years. So my question is :
Would you spend approx. $100 for 2 places at a Dylan concert ?

I think I paid $35 to see him about 2 years ago. I thought it was
great. But it was in a large club. And I don't have a problem with him
tampering with the arrangements of his songs. I also don't mind not
being able to make out the words chuckle.

If you're not much of a fan of his, and your wife is a lapsed fan, I'm
not sure if you'll like it. However, he's one of those people that I
would suggest that *any* rock fan should experience at least once. And
it's amazing that the guy is still contantly touring. I think he does
around 200 dates a year.

I don't think I've ever paid more than $55 for any show, so $50 is
close to the limit of what I'll pay to see a show.

If you're saying that you're a pastry - sure.

We may say
"Ich bin Berliner" if Kennedy were a citizen of Berlin, but add "ein"
for figurative use.

When I learned German, I was told that this phrase was actually
incorrect the way he meant it. Germans that I knew confirmed this as
well. Maybe his misusage of this has become part of the language - I
dunno. Or maybe I was misinformed.

It is a general misunderstanding. All Germans do not agree, but the
majority would see in my explanation the natural direction.

When I hear Celine Dione, I understand all the words.

I'd rather listen to her than look at her .

Don't sweat it . Seeing her with one set of teeth was traumatic enough.
