Default Newbie question

I've recently moved to the US from the UK and am looking to buy a new

hi-fi.
Plan to buy CD player, amp and speakers. Want to spend around $5,000 -
$10,000. If I was in the UK I would be looking at companies like Naim,

Linn
or Quad. Who are the equivalent US hi-fi companies?

Thanks,
Nick

PS Can you recommend any good hi-fi magazines?

There's Audiophile, Absolute Sound, and Sensible Sound

You've probably heard of Krell, Bryston, Threshold, Pass Labs, et al. I'm
hesitant to name more, in case they've gone out of business, but there are
more.

Personally, I believe the rank just below this offers excellent choices,
some of them equally capable.
These include, in no particular order,
Hafler, B&K, Parasound, and Adcom. Each of these companies has a distinctive
voice, and they are all excellent.

Take a look at Perpetual Technologies for a remarkable DAC.

And there are the "boutique" manufacturers, with whom I'm not sufficiently
familiar to comment.

Lack of familiarity hasn't stopped you from commenting upon Trotsky's
Jupiter speakers!
