Loudspeakers are pretty much the only analog part that remains
necesary in the playback chain (OK analog amps are still required *because* of analog speakers). As mentioned elsewhere in another recent posting, pretty much everything else is now capable of being delivered by low-cost, commodity computer-based technology. I wonder if we'll ever see practical, affordable digital speakers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_speakers) or will the specialist hi-fi speaker manufacturers remain necessary for high-end non-headphone-delivered hi-fi for the forseeable future? --- Rob Tweed Company: M/Gateway Developments Ltd Registered in England: No 3220901 Registered Office: 58 Francis Road,Ashford, Kent TN23 7UR Web-site: http://www.mgateway.com |
