Default Music Dictionary

Its worth picking up 'The Dictionary of Musical Terms & Chords' by Albert
DeVito for some light education in the way its written - though I think
something has been lost in translation and understanding (!)

Amplifier: is commonly known as a loudspeaker. It supplies power and
strengthens an incoming signal for output.
Audio Jack: A connector on the back panel marked with a sound icon.
Cardoid Microphone: is a heart shaped microphone.
Coaxial Cable: is cable of transmitting a high quality. Modulated signals
require a transmitter and receiver.
Drop In: Refers to a speck of dirt or foreign matter on tape (See Drop Out)
Drop Out: A loss of recorded data on playback because of imperfections in
the tape or some dirt on the surface of the tap. (?)
Endless loop: A tape that keeps repeating itself until turned off. There is
no ending piece on this kind of tape. This is used a great deal in answering
machines attached to a telephone.
Error: A mistake of some kind.
Modulator: A miniature Transmitter.
R: Abbreviation for "Right"
Rap Music: is not always the correct kind of music as a trained traditional
musician may view it...........
Reel: A lively dance from both Scotland and Ireland.
Resonance: Sound, reverberation, echo.
Sound: A wave motion going through the air...if it is not pleasant to the
hearing, it is noise.....

Anyone know of any other books of this ilk?

Mike
