Default Help me to choose a microphone, thanks!

I'm trying to do some research work in Speech Recognition. I just
notice that a good microphone is very important for the accurary rate.
It seems that USB headset with microphone is better. But it's too hard
for me to choose. Would you please recommend one for me?

I really ought to suggest something like a DPA 4006 by your own logic or a
DPA or a Shure headset, at least some Shure model uses the same capsule as
the DPA headset uses, reportedly not from a third party vendor and not made
by Shure themselves, just unconfirmed hearsay. The headset mics are cheaper
than the 4006's.

Price could be $50 - $100.

I don't think so but you probably suggest that range for a reason. There are
USB microphones out there, at least one model - I think it was on Alesis'
website I saw it. Similar microphones appear with other names, I haven't
bothered looking close enough at web site images of them to detect whether
they are the same.

Thanks in advance!

As so many other usenet newbies you asked without defining the context, and
thus get two answers, on in case you mean it and one in case you ask about
toys. This is the production sound newsgroup btw. ... the acoustics
newsgroup is called alt.sci.physics.acoustics and may be of interest for
you.

Kind regards

Peter Larsen
