Default What would you choose?

I realize many of you would not choose either, but hypothetically if had to

With respect, I would choose the McIntosh for the resale value, and do
that as soon as was practical. You posted this as a hypothetical "had
to". In terms of audio performance, about any decent CD player from one
of the major makers typically available for well under $150 would do as
well or better.

The trick of the CD player is in the transport. The rest of it is
pretty cut-and-dried. I would look for a unit with the Philips-pattern
transport (fewer moving parts) and go from there.
