Default Loudness

Is there a specific reason as to why everything I've recorded only
sounds good at high volume? Have plenty of examples.

Could you be going deaf ? It happens, and I am now - deaf, more in one ear

You might be mixing at too loud a level. If you mix at about 85-90dB,
frequencies are perceived much more evenly.

Look up:
Fletcher and Munson equal loudness contours.

If you want it to sound good at a certain volume,
mix at that volume.
