Recorded a Shure Beta 58 the other day...
Beast of a mic....
The vocalist was a male with a nice rich deep voice and sounded good live through the house PA that night. The dry recording was definitely brittle & edgy. Weird mic... :-) Andy |

It's almost passible with a high-end preamp. Almost. Far better, but harder to find in the average PA mic locker, is an SM57 with the WS2 (?) cylindrical windscreen that Shure makes. Mostly the same pop & breath performance, but without so much of the weird mids & highs. With a good pre sound barely passible. Barely. (Actually, that combo can sound surprisingly good, assuming the 57 itself is in reasonablely good condition.) Frank Stearns Mobile Audio -- |

Try the Beta 57. Better microphone all-round.
