Default Denon 1804 vs/ HK 225 with Klipsch KSBs

Hi all,

I have a surround speaker system consisting of 4 Klipsch KSB 2.1
(Fronts and Surround) and a KSC-C1 center. I'm considering getting
either a Harmon Kardon AVR-225 or a Denon AVR-1804. Does anyone have
thoughts on this?

Any advice is much appreciated. I've used the HK AVR-20II for many
years with a single pair of KSB 2.1, and liked the sound, but now its
time to try a larger set-up. I will use the system in a medium sized
room, so my primary concern is quality of sound... Any insight?

Many many thanks.

HK doesn't even build their own stuff. Haven't for decades. I recommend
Denon or Yamaha.

Mark,
Thanks for your reply. I've read on some other threads that Denon +
Klipsch sounds "too bright", while HK + Klipsch (even though they no
longer make they own stuff) is much more balanced. Do you have any
opinion on that issue?

I do have to admit, however, that I liked the sound of HK models from
the early 90s better than I like the sound of current models. I don't
know if they were making their own stuff back then, but if they were,
I feel a little more justified in these judgements!

Many thanks.

Nope. Can't give even a biased judgement on actual sound quality. For all I
know the HK is better. I can say their build quality isn't as good or as
consistent as Denon in areas relating to soldering, quality control, "rough
edges", little stuff like that. I can say so because I've seen them, worked
on them, dealt with the companies. Lots of people love their HK stuff, and I
have no complaints with that.

NEITHER HK nor Denon build a dvd player worth a damn. Denon dvd's have
terrible reliability and HK's are Philips-built in China. Yick.
