Default Newbie question

Excuse my extremely limited knowledge. I'm into music, but ignorant on
all the options. I had planned to buy a new receiver after Xmas, but I
got a 32 gb Ipod as a gift. I'm now thinking that I may be able to
pass on the receiver altogether, and just get 4 good speakers. Would
this work? Can I get good enough sound out of an Ipod if I get decent
speakers ?

you're not up on audio gear, it might be easier to get a receiver with a
dock for your player. There are also interface devices of varying cost
and quality, the simplest being a headphone to RCA interconnect, that
can be used with any receiver with a line input.

You'll need to know whether you want stereo or multichannel. Stereo is
easier.

Bose sells a nice Ipod docking station. Just plug your Ipod into it and
it becomes a stereo player. I listened to one at BJ's. Liked the way it
sounded, good base and clear mids.

Yes, the manufacturing price-point does have excellent base
for the shareholders.
Happy New Year!!

That would be like getting a big table-top radio. There are similar
products from Apple, Klipsch, etc.

If you want something a step up in class, there's the Arcam Solo with
rLEAD. Add the best speakers you can find and enjoy.

What purpose do you have for the 4 speakers? There are only 2 channels
coming out of the iPod.

Would this work? Can I get good enough sound out of an

The speakers need to have an external source of power, as the iPod has very
little power of its own. It can just barely power the earphones it came
with.
