Default Why are so many floor standing speakers too short?

Audio Physic, QUAD, Monitor, Gallo Ref 3 etc

Why do manufacturers make speakers so short they put the
tweeters/midranges 6" or below the average listening height? People
actually buy stands for the QUAD and Gallo. That is ridiculous and a rip
off. This is simple human engineering

Because they are trying to get the right room response. The fact that you
hear slightly off axis radiation from these drivers is part of the design
balance. In an analogous fashion, many speakers are designed for zero
toe-in. It is desired by the manfacturer that the room response be excited
by a proportionately greater response. In the case of some metal drivers,
pointing the driver away from the listener slightly attenuates breakup modes
in the upper portion of the driver range.

That's a good point. My Legacy's are very tall and put the tweeter
midrange right
at ear height and if you toe them in directly to the listener... they
are fatiguing and suffer sibilance. My Quads on the other hand must
be elevated and toed in to focus directly on the listener to sound
their best IMO.
