Default Pace

Can someone explain to me the meaning of the term "pace" as applied to
an audio component? I have seen the term applied to amplifiers and
perhaps to other components and have never understood the concept. Do
good amplifiers have a "fast" pace, a "regular" pace, or what? And what
does an amplifier (or cable, etc.?) with bad pace sound like?

Thanks,
Jim
