on my daw i use an maudio fw1814 audio interface. it does not have a
hardware volume control. The volume knob on it is a controller for the software mixer's main LR out. I hate that. I don't want to use the volume knobs on my monitors (genelec 8030's) because i'll never get them matched just right, so i just max them out. Is there a box i can buy or build that has a stereo input, stereo output and a volume knob on it? Nate |

In another thread yesterday we discussed making your own with a dual pot. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |

i went out today and bought a mackie big knob. way overkill for what i

NHT Pro's Passive Volume Control is very nice - under $100

![]() Steve Halko wrote: NHT Pro's Passive Volume Control is very nice - under $100 It seems that the buy-in point for this sort of gadget is about $100 (they go up form there, and sometimes you can get more functions as a trade-off for less precision for about that price). For less money, you can get a Radio Shack in-line volume control like the one I use in line with the headphones on my Jukebox3 when I'm playing it on an airplane and want to adjust the volume without fiddling with the digital buttons. http://tinyurl.com/ox5g9 Its input impedance is 1KOhm which might be a bit hard on a low power output, and of course it's unbalanced, uses mini phone connectors, and probably doesn't track all that accurately between channels. But it'll probalby work for non-critical listening and it only costs $6.95. |
