Default Dual 1215 question

Hi,

I asked for advice about a week ago, on which record changer to buy. I
have since picked up a mid 60s vintage RCA console stereo, which I
intend to use to house the turntable. Step one in this project, is
getting a decent turntable in the console. The catch here, is that the
turntable is mounted to the inside of a door, which flips open... this
means that the turntable must be able to withstand being in a vertical
position while stored.

Currently, there is a Garrard unit installed, which is horrible, to say
the least. It's got an Astatic stereo ceramic cartridge, which I am
afraid to use on any of my good records. The ideal solution here seems
to be to buy one of the late 70s Garrards, which has the same 2 bolt
mounting pattern, and a small magnetic cartridge preamp from radio
shack, so that I can use a cartridge that isn't going to ruin my
records.

The other option, which I am seriously considering, is to install a Dual
1215 or similar in place of the Garrard. So my question is this... Is
the platter on the Dual 1215 held in place with a C-clip, or will it
come off when you turn the player on its side? Also, is there a
restraint mechanism for the tonearm? Same questions apply for the BIC
units, and also the belt drive Garrard changers from the late 70s.

Thank you in advance,

Max
