Default CD Changers

I'm considering buying a large capacity (300 or 400 cd) CD changer. I
like the idea of being able to store all my cd's in it and not have to
provide shelf space for all those cd's.

Seems like a neat idea, but I'm not convinced are as good as they may
seem.
Are they a pain in the neck to operate?
Are they slow to move from one disk to another?
Is it a hassle to keep track of disk numbers/locations?

Just wondering if anyone who has actually used one of these changers
has any comments about them; good or bad.

Dunno, I'm thinking something like Squeezebox may work. There are
probably more pro solutions. The best is of course yet to come-it's an
underserved area.

For the record, that would be MY house, where Bob has had a 12x14 room since
birth, having never paid a dime for the privilege.

Brian, you have the dimensions of the listening room wrong.

But you don't dispute the rest of the statement, eh?

I think they are great and have owned them since Sony introduced their
second generation unit. I have never had ANY problems with them and my only
complaint would be that they are a bit noisy and slow during disc shuffles.
As long as you get one with digital output and can use your own DAC (if
desired), you won't be sacrificing any sound quality. Many support CD-Text,
but VERY few CDs (that you don't burn yourself) provide it. Without it, you
can still label discs (with limited # of characters), but cannot label
individual tracks. Few have two-way remote capabilities, so if you are
going to be searching for disc, you pretty much have to do it AT the unit.
Hard disk jukeboxes certainly have their advantages, but were not an option
~10 years ago.

Actually, none of it is true. There's no point in disclosing personal
details on r.a.o. I certainly don't want Brian to know.

Interesting. But what's left not to disclose? You've even posted your
phone number on rao a few times to discuss further aspects of your
epic vendetta with McLardo with anybody willing to call you up.

GeoSynch

Disclosure of a personal phone number is nothing, imho. Many people have
publicly listed phone numbers. What's not left to disclose is everything you
choose not to disclose yourself. It's not a good thing to let strangers know
the shape of one's life. I wouldn't tell anybody my financials, or what I
do, or where I live, or what property I own. To give you an example of what
Brian does, he called the cops on afew people. He filed a zoning complaint
against a poor hapless individual who was selling hifi equipment out of his
home. When the city of Dover, DE failed to respond, he threatened the city
government with a suit because their website was not accessible to the
blind.

I'm sorry, "GeoSynch", but usenet is a dangerous environment. I note you
take care not to even give your name. I actually understand why you do that,
but it's a shame that it's necessary. To disclose personal information is an
invitation for complete strangers to interfere with one's life. And there's
no plus side. Nobody on r.a.o. is going to reward me in any meaningful way
for doing so.

I give my name and my phone number because I am an open person. Anyone can
call me at any time and discuss my posts. I will tell them what I said, and
what were forgeries. In this minor way, I enjoy being a public person. I
feel that it helps me do a tiny bit of good, against all the evil that there
is in this world.

Nobody asked if I had done it, so I didn't say.

Put the music on a hard drive, in a
lossless or uncompressed format and send it to a DAC of
good quality from there.

Seconded.

Are there any network-aware devices I can use? I have RJ-45's all over the
place. It would be neat to control a central server from a laptop.

It can't be a "domestic", Bassett. One of them's living in OZ and the
other in the US.

Aren't you aware of the famous McCarty/Morein war? Leaves Hannibal and
Scipio Africanus for dead.

No Paul, I must admit, I cannot tell a lie, and I'm not into Morein
thing'ees, Mind you his Mum did sound convincing, Mind you a know a few
Mums, who also sound convincing, and they also make nice Sponge cakes, But
if this one is a septic, I'm afraid, she has a lot more problems then she
first thought.
So I will retract any offers I might have made.

That's his "dad", alias Brian L. McCarty. You really must get up to
speed, bassett. You've been baying at the moon too long.

no the post I read, the poster said, it was his mum, and she was ****ed
because he had never paid her any rent. And she had confined him to one
room.
Anyway, life's a lot simpler when you howl at the moon.
