Apparantly Jupiter Audio did not have the desired effect on the group. Has Greg Singh gone back underground to generate more business/ammo for his next battle? -- S i g n a l @ l i n e o n e . n e t Madisound discussion group. No comment... Posted By: greg singh (user-11faak0.dsl.mindspring.com) Date: 11/26 5:45a.m. Well, I thought I had a great speaker going: Peerless 850146, Silver Flute 5 1/4" midrange, Silver Flute YAG-20 tweeter. I had a great cabinet made, wired it up, and played in my house for a couple of days. The sound was outstanding. So I called up my buddy to try the speakers out in his all Chord system, in a much larger room than mine, somewhere between 3 and 4 thousand cubic feet. He likes to listen to music quite a bit louder than me, I figured this would be a good way to put the power handling of the speaker to the test. They lasted all of about five minutes, before both Silver Flute 5 1/4"s fried almost simultaneously. We weren't even listening to anything obnoxious: Pat Metheny. I was both surprised and hugely disappointed. I'm guessing at the listening level we were listening to the amp was maybe hitting 200 watts on peaks, which is pretty good power, but certainly well within the limits of what I expected the speaker to handle. Now I'm wondering if the sealed midrange chambers in the cabinets weren't sealed well enough, and back pressure from the woofer did them in. Or are the Silver Flutes just wimps? |
