My room is really small (9'x12') and my subwoofer sits in the bottom compartment of my cabinet about 6 inches from my bed. I think I'm getting good performance, but I'm not exactly sure. My question: since I have about 4 inches of remaining vertical cabinet space, would it be beneficial to raise the subwoofer for better performance? And when I say "raise", I don't mean putting wood just under the legs, I'd use big, square pieces of wood to cover the entire bottom surface area of the woofer. Does anyone know anything about this? I don't want to go to all the trouble if it's not worth it. Thanks. The closeness of the sub to the floor actually increases bass output. However, since the sub is in a cabinet, where it was not designed to be, the frequency response is different from what the manufacturer envisioned. However, since most small subs have nonflat response, this could be better or worse. If you feel the sound is "boomy", you might try raising. For maximum output, the current position is likely the better of the two. Even better would be to get it out of the cabinet. You could shove it in a closet. Even covered by clothes, that would be a better place for it. The vibrations created by a sub are potentially damaging to hifi and a/v equipment. |
