I have a pair of headphones and they don't get quite loud enough for my
tastes when connected to my MP3 player. I'm wondering if there is an affordable device which can be connected in-line to the 1/8" headphone jack which will amplify the sound at little or no quality loss--and isn't huge. LRH |

Maybe something like this?

This one gets good marks but will cost you $200.
http://www.headphone.com/layout.php?...D=00000 10002 I have one of those Radio Shack things that take 2 AA batteries (Boost-A-Roo, I think). Sound output is poor as far as I'm concerned and the bass distorts at higher levels. Seems the amp in it just doesn't have the poop to run it LOUD and the 18mw output of the player is pretty much what comes out of the R.S. toy albeit with more distortion as well. Running it into two phones was pretty much a disaster too (that was the intended use). The phone jack inside the thing has oxidized over time and now I need to twist the heck out of the plug to keep it singing, along with spraying some No-Noise into it to quiet the jack-noise down. Of course, this was one of the early models so it may have been improved since, but I doubt it will equal anything like the above HeadRoom unit. HeadRoom also carries just about all the earphones and cans made and gives their rankings on them as well. Personally, I'd shoot for the ones they don't carry: Sensaphonic's Prophonic Soft 2X, but at $900 a pop they'll have to wait until next Xmas. Funny, I didn't see the Sony MDR-R10 Home Style Headphones in their sales cart. Okay, so they retail for $3999.99 (oh...Amazon has them on sale for a mere $3799.99 !!) B~ |

Try this:
http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...5Fid=33%2D1109 Hardly the last word in sound quality, but more than fits your specs. I found it quite listenable with my Zen and 580's. And these http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...5Fid=33%2D1222 sound way better than they have a right to at $20! "Larry R Harrison Jr" wrote in message news:G0lyd.2$CH5.1@fed1read01... Sound output is poor as far as I'm concerned and he bass distorts at higher levels. The problem with the Boostaroo is that it runs off of a 3 volt supply, as does much of the equipment that it is designed to boost. Basically, if you want louder sound you need both more gain and more output voltage capacity. Boostaroo has the extra gain, but it may not as supplied have the extra output voltage that you may require. OTOH if you use a Boostaroo with a device that runs off a single AA or AAA cell, it will provide a loudness advantage. My solution to the Boostaroo's output voltage limitaiton is to operate it from a power supply with higher voltage than a mere 3 volts. I modifed a scrapped Comcast 5 volt power supply by adding a couple of dowels and brass screws that simulate two cells. This nearly doubled the Boostaroo's maximum voltage output. I think that this is about the limit of its basic design. Wroks for me! |

Head-fi.org is a web site devoted to high-fidelity headphone listening.
Visit their amp forum to learn more about various amplifiers. Beware, they discuss sound quality like Californians discuss wine. They also have a for sale forum where you can get deals on used equipment. |

work especially well. Meat is not necessary every day, don?t
be afraid to alter any dish to vegetarian tastes. 1 premature baby, born dead Large bunch of mustard greens 2 white onions, 1 cup chopped celery Vegetable oil (or hog fat) Salt, pepper, garlic, etc. Lightly brown onions, celery, garlic and meat in large heavy pot. Add a little water and the greens (which should be thoroughly cleaned and washed). Smother slowly for at least 2 hours, adding small amounts of water when it starts to stick. Stir frequently. When ready - serve with rice, grilled smoked sausage, green salad, and iced tea. Coffee and apple pie then brandy. Maternity Ward Pot Luck Dinner If you can?t get anything fresh from the hospital, nursery, or morgue; you can at least get rid of all the leftovers in your refrigerator. 1 - 2 lbs. cubed meat (human flesh, chicken, turkey, beef...) 1 -2 lbs. coarsely chopped vegetables (carrots, potatoes, turnips, cauliflower, cabbage...) Bell pepper onions garlic ginger salt pepper, etc. Olive oil butter Brown the meat and some chopped onions, peppers, and garilic in olive oil, place in baking dish, layer with vegetables seasoning and butter.
