Default Fixing some old MTX subs

Hey everybody, I'm new to the car audio stuff. I don't have very much money
for a sub system at all, but I was just given 2 12" MTX subs in a box.
However, they are old, I think 4-5 years or more. I'm now looking for an
amp, but that's not why I'm posting this. Just to test them out, I hooked
each sub up to the home theater system we have. I believe it puts out 135
watts max, and I just ran some music. The sub on the right sounds pretty
good, however, the left sub has some distortion. I think the reason might
be at one place the surround looks like it's been pushed in. So I think
that's what is vibrating. Is there any way I can fix that? The subs have
stains on them and aren't pretty, but I just want them to work, and add some
thump to my little 93 eclipse. Thanks for any help in advance,
Chris
