Hello,
I'm wondering what microphone preamps out there on the market (or off the market) have more than 60dB of gain. If you have a comment to go with the preamp model I'd be interested in hearing what you have to say. Thanks, Peter |

the market) have more than 60dB of gain. All of my preamps can easily be modified for more than the standard maximum of 60dB. I have done it for several customers at no charge. -- John Hardy The John Hardy Co. www.johnhardyco.com |

There are a ton of them. Probably 90% of the pro market preamps go over 60db.

You should add the Buzz MA2.2 to the excellent list that's already been posted...64 dB of gain, clean, quiet, musical. Info at: www.buzzaudio.co.nz. Brian Middleton Night Kitchen Dorchester, Mass. |

That will work, and of course, if they are different, I would certainly recomand putting the lower noise one first, and the lower distortion one second. In fact by the time you go through the first 30 or more dB gain, the second one can be a very noisy one. Regarding sugestion to alter the circuitry itself: It may work well when one knows their circuits and have some margins to spare. There are cases where one is forced to trade something for the extra gain. The tradeoff may be reduced bandwidth or worse distortions. When a design depends a lot on negative feedback to get distortions in line, using more of the availble gain (open loop gain)to amplify, leaves you with less for the feedback correction. The Gordon Model 3 provides up to 70 dB of gain and uses no global feedback (at a price, of course.) |

Are you interested in 60+ dB of gain if the noise floor then sits at -60 dBFS? -- Len Moskowitz PDAudio, Binaural Mics, Cables, DPA, M-Audio Core Sound http://www.stealthmicrophones.com Teaneck, New Jersey USA http://www.core-sound.com Tel: 201-801-0812, FAX: 201-801-0912 |
