What do you think about this mic preamp? I think that it's good, but i'd
like to know if it has something bad.
How is it compared to the SSL XLogic Superanalogue Channell?
Thanx

The only thing bad about it is that I don't happen to have the cash to
buy one.

Has Pendulum ever made ANYTHING that is bad? (How many companies can
you say that about, besides Cranesong and a handful of others!)

I think I'll go lurk outside of Mercenary and hope one accidently
falls off a truck...

I've been using the pendulum pre with all kinds of mics. It's really good. Very
versatile. I would call it a "clean" tube pre. "warmth" with clarity and great
detail. Just recorded a steinway B with baby bottles with good results. I also
use fearn, cranesong and milennia. the pendulum has its own flavor but is
definately the equal. Some mics have come alive with the pendulum in ways they
do not with any of the other pres.

Pendulum Audio isn't clean in the same way as a Grace or solid state
Millennia preamp. It does have a sound, but it's subtle, very smooth,
and 'hi-fi'. Sure, you can drive the input of the preamp to get a
little more harmonic content, but it's never grungy or dulled out in
the air frequencies.

I don't know what their stuff sounds like, I've never heard it...but
on their website their philosphy seems to be that their gear is made
to be accurate and clean.

A lot of people buy Toob gear to get a certain "sound"...which may be
the design, the tubes, the transformers, whatever.

I get the impression that the Pendulum stuff is not in this category,
which is fine.

Maybe Fletcher can ring in on this one, as I said I have never heard
the stuff but I don't think it's designed to offer a "highly effected"
type of tube/transformer sound.

I have the Pendulum Quartet and can recommend it highly. In addition to
echoing the positive feedback on use with various mics, for me the unit
really shines on bass taken direct, and all direct instruments generally.
The compressor module is excellent. Well worth the investment. The only
thing that would be nice is if the unit were stereo -- for the same price!
