Default How Honest is Bob?

It's funny that Bob is trying to call me a dishonest reviewer. His
use of the word "dishonest" is very misleading.

First of all, Bob can't call me a dishonest reviewer, because he
hasn't read any of my reviews. Bob thinks I'm a "reviewer for
Furious.com." In reality, I write a column for them on how to get
back into vinyl, and what's going on in that world. I don't even do
reviews for Perfect Sound Forever (not "Furious.com"). I basically
talk about my own experiences while continuing to listen to vinyl
(something Bob has stated he has no interest in doing). If I'm being
somehow dishonest about my experiences in listening to vinyl, I'd like
to see Bob provide an example.

Secondly, this whole incident started because Bob made a dishonest
statement. In the world of audio reviewers (especially among amateur
reviewers on websites and discussion forums), it is common to see
comments such as "this $2000 amplifier blows away all $10,000
amplifiers." Then you ask that person, "Well, how many $10,000
amplifiers have you had in your system?" If they're honest, the
answer is usually "Well, none." And then the response is "Well, you
don't know what you're talking about then, do you." And often that
person becomes angry because their position becomes unsupportable and
their credibility has taken a huge hit. Often they lash out angrily
because this is indeed the Internet.

This is what happened to Bob. He made a list of his favorite SS amps
from the '80s and said they sounded as good, if not better, than the
best amps available today. When asked which of the best amps has Bob
tried in his own system, he imploded. He mentioned having heard
something over a friend's house, or something to that effect. In
other words, when Bob made his statement about today's amplifiers, he
was being dishonest.

I know most of you are pretty sick of this. I know most of you don't
take Bob seriously. But I have a problem in that I am a professional
reviewer, and I pride myself on being an honest one. It bothers me
that someone can do a Google search on my name and have Bob's
ridiculous and dishonest comments pop up. So I do want to state for
the record that when I do review a component, I listen and report what
I hear...nothing more. At my magazine (which is NOT "furious.com"),
we've established a reputation for that. I just don't want a
dishonest person such as Bob affecting that.

We've worked hard to build this magazine. It doesn't seem fair that
Internet crackpots such as Robert Morein can inflict damage to it.

Nope, not a fact at all. It's just what you tell yourself to pump up

You've been doing it for years. Problem is, you haven't figured out
that posting on Usenet every day for years and years is a bad thing,

Maybe you should give it at least a cursory glance. While it's
admirable to avoid the negative, think of it as a cautionary tale.

Arnii "**** for Dinner" Krooborg tries punishing himself.

You guys should make it an ultimate test of humanity to
be friends with each other.

I have far too many turdish obligations to poop out
anything special for such a thing.

Arnii, people are saying you're a ****. How does that
make you feel?

Obviously Middiot, you have so little contact with people that you think you
are one.

Friends don't take up nearly as much time as enemies. Marc, if you had any
friends, you'd know this.

So you're saying that you spend more time with your enemies than
friends. Got it.

I thought it was always moderate where you are. We hit 99 last week, and
that felt awful. On the other hand, a couple years ago, I skipped out of
Canoga park just before it hit 118F. I can't imagine what that would feel
like.

Yes, it's very unusual. In our little microclimate (just off a south
facing beach, just south of Pismo), the hotest temp we've experienced in
the summer in our four years is 89. Usually it's cloudy all summer with
highs about 70. If we want sun, we drive about 3 miles to Pismo Beach.
This is crazy. Scott, how is it in SM?

It's not that I necessarily spend more time with the enemies, it is that
their stupidity consumes more of my time to work around it.

You didn't realize that? Krooger has more "enemies" than he can count.
Plus there's also the quota for new ones to meet.

Maybe it's better not to have enemies at all.

I heard they cancel rock concerts in Austin when it gets over 90, but they
never, ever cancel C&W concerts.

I like it.. neither too hot or too cold...

Well, I just emerged from 8 months of solid rain. I could use a bit
