Default Chesky Audiophile CDs

OK,

My extreme apologies. It wasn't Mike Rivers, but who sent me the Chesky CD
about 8 months ago?

Regards,

Ty Ford

I have a few Chesky CDs, and one of them is the most horribly and obviously
clipped CD that I've ever heard.

Which one? Is it a Bob Katz recording or a reissue?

I believe that it is titled "Ultimate Demo Disc" or some such. It sounded
real bad when I played it, so I ripped the CD and looked at the waveform
that is on it. I'd say that up to 50% of the likely amplitude of some of the
peaks have been chopped off. I say "likely amplitude" because it is hard to
know exactly what was removed since it is no longer there.

Jesus,

Thanks Richard and a public apology for disremembering. I knew it was someone
whose opinion I really value. I have a short list. You're on it. I just
couldn't "access the file."

I did enjoy them.

Chesky Demo Disc has some great Jazz and choir recordings using spatial
techniques.
I do wonder if his descriptions bias the listening experience.

Chesky Vol. 1, especially part two's listening and technical tests, were fun
to listen to. It had been a while since I sat to simply listen.

My advice for intrepid listeners is to get at least the Chesky Records Jazz
Sampler and Audiophile Test Compact Disc Vol. 1 and go thorough the tests.
(and enjoy the jazz tunes, too. These are produced with lots of open space.
Much different that most "commercial recordings" we hear today.

Thanks again, Richard.

You should ask Bob Katz about it and see what he has to say. Sounds like
someone had slipped up badly somewhere along the line.

Perhaps the aluminum has pinholes?

That would invalidate the data, not cause clipping.
