Should keyboard (PC88MX) go through mic pre?
(Brian) wrote in message . com...
I just bought a used PC88mx. I recently plugged straight into my
Panasonic AD converter then into my RME HDSP 9652 and got little
volume. I assume that the problem is the output of the PC88 because
the meters only light about half way. I am not a keyboard player and
know very little about them so maybe someone could tell me if there is
an adjustment on the PC88mx to increase the output other than the
master volume fader (which I have fully open). I just figured
something that is line level would not require a mic pre and could go
straight into the converter box. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
PC88's are notorious for having a really weak output volume, I mean
really weak.
Since the unit is not programmable (except for the relative volumes of
the patches in a setup) you can't turn up the volume of a patch.
So if you can't bump it up at your converter, you need to run it
through a line level mixer or into the DI's of a mic pre.
My keyboard player has one of these (PC-88MX) and he has to double the
volume on his keyboard mixer over any of the other keyboards or
modules in his rig.
