Must have sounded HORRID with a VF14!

Right. The SP "going over" should have addressed the "darkness", one should
assume. Something doesn't seem right about this one...

The darkness was not intended to be addressed. The mic never sounded horrid.
It was not a problem. It is simply a darker U-47. If the SP Mod to the
capsule had been done then it would have changed the whole character of the
mic. (probably made it brighter with less bottom) It's simply a matter of
taste. Some only prefer bright mics. Cool. Some like variety.

I never said that there was an SP Mod in my original post. Stephan Paul
worked on the mic. That is exactly what I said in my original post. Tony
works on a lot of mics and certainly does NOT do there "Mod" on all of them.
Specifically there is a new Jensen transformer, cable and some misc cleaning
of contacts ect. There was a noise problem with the mic and that is why
Tony worked on it. (the noise was fixed). David db Butler was the one that
used the term Mod. He assumed that was done because I mentioned SP. (I
guess that's logical because SP is well known for the Mod) The capsule was
never modified. It is original. This was not (as far as I know) ever a
VF-14 Mic. I believe this was Nu-vistor to begin with. Unfortunately I
don't know the entire history of the mic. But for sure it does NOT have
the SP "Mod".

Anyone with ISDN is welcome to give it a listen though if interested. It's
not like having it set up in your own studio but it should be helpful.

Thanks
