Hi there !
Does anybody know the distortion with valve power called "thermionic culture vulture" which is currently reviewed in Future-Music? Can't find anything about it on the net. Thanx ! kubi |

They get points from me for the table of selected performance parameters
versus gain near the bottom of http://www.i-deas.net/~thermionic/earlybird.htm . I'd like to see this chart for lots of other mic pres, particularly Mackie consoles, the RNP, etc. Me too. I think they lose points, though, for giving only THD figures for their distortion map, with no info on harmonic content, and also for only giving figures at 0dBV, without information on how the distortion increases with level. They do claim +31dBV maximum output, but they don't say at what distortion level. Still, a more-than-usually useful set of specs, and the preamp certainly looks like it has good features and performance. Peace, Paul |

I'll happily take a cup that's half-full compared to the current empty cup. Still, a more-than-usually useful set of specs, and the preamp certainly looks like it has good features and performance. Just goes to show that you don't need to do it in solid state to get good measured performance. ;-) |
