I'm sure it'll sound better than it looks, but man. Well, you dn't get what you don't pay for. You can get a Mackie Satellite for $200 these days. Just use the "pod" without the dock if you just want a basic mic preamp and all the problems that people complain about - odd monitor volume pot curve, hum on the instrument inputs, whine in the mic preamps . . . go away. But I guess it's too late for that. And it doesn't have cool meters, just a few LEDs. I overlooked the Satellite when I was considering interfaces because I was trying to be thrifty by getting one with lots of included software. Then, I totally forgot about it when I went back to look at interfaces once I had the E-Mu 1212m with all of its software. But I'm content having gone with what you suggested for assured no latency recording with a split Y output from a dedicated preamp to the sound card and a little mixer. I ultimately went with the ever so tiny Behringer 1002FX($85) for monitoring and of course the DMP3($145) for the preamp. I think finding perfect levels may be a tiny bit more of a challenge, but beyond that I don't see any issues. Thanks again, Jeff |
