Default Nitty Gritty record cleaner experience

I just got my Nitty Gritty Pro IIa back from the factory after being
serviced. I wanted to say dealing with Scott and Gayle at Nitty
Gritty was a pleasure. The work was done quickly and correctly, and
the price was very reasonable. They even threw in a 16-oz bottle of
cleaning solution when they sent the cleaner back to me.

I've never used any other brand of record cleaner so I can't compare
between brands, but I seriously doubt that anyone could have better
customer service than what I experienced.

Let me know if you have any questions about the repair work I had done
or about the record cleaner in general.

Having just purchased the base model six months ago, I'd be interested
in learning how long you had your unit before it required service, and
just what that service entailed.

Well, I bought the Pro IIa used a month or so ago, and it required
service right away - perhaps the problem occurred when it was shipped
to me.

Anyway, here's what service I had done. The Pro IIa has the automatic
fluid injection, so there's a tank that holds the cleaning solution.
Whenever I turned on the vacuum to dry the record, the vacuum would
pull the fluid from the cleaning fluid tank and dump it on the floor.
This turned out to be a leak in the fluid line where it went into the
"arm" that cleans the top of the record (the Pro IIa cleans top and
bottom at the same time.

They also replaced the vac-sweep "lips" on top and bottom, as well as
the rubber capstan. Lastly, they did a "clean-and-lube" on the motor
that turns the spindle and put in a lighter spring to make it easier
to move the capstan out of the way to place the record on the spindle.

I don't know exactly how old the unit is, but there was a sticker on
the fluid pump dated 1986, so I imagine the unit is about that old.
