As you were in the Navy, I will assume you know what it is to assume. :-)
Anyway, I find it to be dark gear, I am not crazy about it. I wonder if Arcam may not be a better bang for the buck? I have what was high dollar gear in it's day, and now it is highly modified, so I really do not know what is out there.... -- Best Regards, Lou "Midlant" wrote in message ... For awhile NAD has been all over this ng as being great sounding but of mediocre build quality. I only have used NAD equipment once and that was 10 years ago. I bought a 3400 integrated amp to replace a Kenwood integrated I bought overseas. One of the chips burned out when my roommate accidentally shorted the speakers wires together on one channel. The local tech wasn't able to order the chip and frankly I wasn't worried about it since it was a big ugly chip and I didn't have a lot of money into it since I bought it through the Navy for dirty cheap. I listened to what was available and walked home with the NAD unit. To my chagrin, it never measured up to the el cheapo Kenwood. It was flat sounding. It just didn't have the "it" to it like the Kwood did. I even went so far as to buy the high dollar ic patch cord to replace the shorting bars between the pre and amp sections on it. Big mistake there. I never heard a difference. That experience put me off on audio salons. The next time through this particular salon which was 3 years ago I walked away with Monitor Audio speakers. Great sounding at first but, within a few months I couldn't stand to listen to them. And they did stop carrying them more so to them being sold on eBay than anything else. Back to NAD, did they change since 92-93 time frame? From the experience of the NAD unit I had I wouldn't touch them with your money. John |
