Default CD player recommendation

I picked up an RCA ( model not on the machine ) for about $ 100 on sale
( probably cost about $200 retail ) around 15-20 years ago. Sounds good
to me tho it may break up at high levels on some recordings. The remote
seemed not to work ( no real problem), and it has real difficulty on
some CDs capturing the first tack on a disc. It`s good enough to use ,
but when I get a replacement what should I do ? I have a Mac receiver,
Probe Jade speakers ( $ 4,000/pair 15 years ago and which are are only
great ), and high end Staxx phones.. I`m aware of the importance of the
quality of the amp/ pre-amp/receiver and speakers, but I seem to
remember getting the impression that a low-medium priced CD player ,say
in the $100-200 range, will be fine even with a high quality system
which I consider mine to be . Is this true, and if not, why not ? Any
recommendations and what to avoid ? Thanks, Stephen

You might put the Oppo DV-981HD on your short list. It's a little above
your price range, but it will play all formats except HD DVD and Blu-Ray. I
have this DVD/CD player and it sounds very nice for the price. (Listening
to a DVD-A as I type this...) I researched this player online before I
finally decided on it.

Happy listening!
