Either I'm missing something really serious about TDM, or LE is the

You would think digid would have a pat answer of what tools or

They sorta do: TDM takes the processing off the computer and puts it on
dedicated DSP cards. That's not insignificant. It just doesn't seem to
be *necessary* for many, many applications.

They've changed it already. All new iMacs come with their "mighty
mouse." As I've written previously, OSX comes with scroll wheel and
right click support... and has since 10.2 at least. Hook up any two
button mouse and it works.

Hey Ethan
I didn't mean to insult you in any way--sorry. Thanks for the
enlightening article on copy protection!
BTW- I have been a registered CW user since 7 (have 7,8,9 and now use
Sonar 3.1 Producer). I just want to clarify-that I am not a "Bozo" or
whatever that guy called me. And the Event speakers that were blowing up
were due to a batch of mis-shipped European models and had nothing
whatsoever to do with anything I did. It was fun blowing em up! I finally
got the right pair and I love em-they sound great and translate well. They
were my favorite of the Dynaudio, the Mackies and JBL- in the same price
range-the ASP8s are cool!

Thanx
Jeff

Jeff,

are you using a pirated copy?

ROF,L. No, and it wasn't complimentary either. I paid for every version
from
1.0 through 5.0. I was going to skip the 5.0 upgrade because 4.0 does more
than I'll ever need. Heck, 1.0 was plenty good enough. But everyone told
me
5.0 was a very worthwhile upgrade so I bought that too.

Copy protection is a big problem, and I refuse to buy anything protected
with more than a serial number. Too many companies go out of business -
even
big companies - and I'm not willing to see my investment (money AND time)
go down the toilet the next time I buy a new computer. I have been tricked
a
few times though, like my recent purchase of Vegas 6 - DVD Architect won't
work until it's registered with a challenge response. Here's more on copy
protection:

If anything, Apple is even

get minimal, dude" hippy vibe.

I don't buy into any of that ****, either, and have no iPod's, etc.
Mostly I run old Macs, and my main machine still sits happily running
OS9.2.2 most of the time. Ain't a virus on the horizon for long time
now.

I live rurally, on a dialup, and have no interest in giant downloads
that are supposed to make the OS work like it should have in the first
place, whether it's Apple trying to fix ****ups, or M$ trying to shut
the viral doors, while leaving open all the backdoors.

I'm still a computer newbie, 11 years now, all Macs, not a penny spent
on antiviral tools, and nary an instrusive problem.

If I ever acquired a Mac, the first thing I'd do is wipe the OS and
install Linux.

And I'll do that when I see the equivalent of Logic Pro, Digital
Performer, ProTools, etc., running as easily in Linux.

Yeah, man, I hear you; what a idiot I am. I play a handful of

damn, when I need a bassoon part I have to call a bassoon player.

That's fine. I don't like the way Windows looks, and I'd rather spend
the time I'd need to learn it playing music. I don't need or want other
ways to process words, bang around numbers, read email, etc. I don't

You make me laugh.
But it is cool that you are writing songs. I love music- and I know what
you mean about people who have to blab about being a "pro" or whatever and a
lot of times they are just a joke. Some guy wanted to sit in a couple of
weeks agof. He walked up to the stage and immediately went into a speech
about how many gtrs he had. I only bring 4 to the gig. An acoustic 6, an
acoustic 12, a Strat w/Floyd Rose and either a Flying V or a Les Paul- I can
pretty much cover anything from AC/DC, SRV, VH to Black Eyed Peas, Weezer
and unplugged stuff ala Beatles,Eric Clapton, Incubus. (I sing and play to
backing trax I record in Sonar and perform 4-5 nights/wk in MN and WI as
Minnesota's #1 One Man Band.) He goes right to "I definitely have more gtrs
than you" and I knew the guy was joker. Geez dude- I probly have over 30
gtrs and these at the gig aren't even the nice ones! But who cares-you can
only play em one at a time-- unless your Rick Neilsen! I was gonna blow the
guy off until 2 employees from the bar said he was a regular and asked if he
could play a song. I was like "sure!" I plugged the guy in and started the
sequence for the easy 3 chord Keep Your hands to Yourself by the Georgia
Satellites. This guy was amazing--not only could he not play any solo, he
could not even feel when to change on the 1,1V and V-he couldn't even find
beat 1 .
Anyways- I'm not rich but I am lucky and blessed enough to make a living
doing music and have done so for decades--performing, recording and
teaching. These days I've taken a hiatus from studio work and teaching to
enjoy performing live.
Why are you afraid to show your real name or say what you do with

me? afraid? it just seems that way
i've splattered this nest of people with my tunes

i realize it's not really a writers forum it's a techno thingy with
sonar
however! all the cool people hang out here

it's kind of like when you go shopping for a new vevlet sports coat or
snakeskin boots
you automatically go for the most expensive ones based on the quality

you seem quite seasoned and down to earth with your music

i've met people like your guitarist, I had a saxaphonist come and do
some recording with me in a church, it was a nice facility...

he began to complain that he wasn't having any fun! this was the
biggest joke among us for the longest time...no fun? yeah! recording is
tedious and hard work

the fun is in, maybe laying a vocal line and git it out of your system
so to say
a good melody will haunt a soul until it is sung

other times, you gotta get out and live in order to have something to
write and sing about

News flash...........................
"A rock band used to be four guys and a drummer. Now it's five guys sitting

I know a few myself, I was once playing a one night stand in a redneck bar
in ??? TX. This guy thought I was flirting with his gal. I told him I
would meet him outside tomorrow night at 1:00 when I got off work playing.
g I was just kidding about the fries, but if you have ever cooked fries

What would a musician do if he won a million dollars?
Continue to play gigs until the money ran out

What's the difference between a musician and a fourteen-inch pizza?
A fourteen-inch pizza can feed a family of four.

What happens when you play "the blues" backwards?
Your wife comes back to you, your dog returns to life and you get out of
prison.
What happens when you play country western music backwards?
You get your pickup truck back, your dog returns to life, and you get back
your job at the car wash.

And probably the funniest "?musicial?" joke of all times:

"We don't like their sound, and guitar music is on the way out." -- Decca
Recording Company rejecting the Beatles, 1962

Jack Dee, a British stand-up comic, has a great repertoire of put downs. Two
that I've seen recently ...

- to a guy who had obviously had too much to drink: "What's your name then?
Any idea?"

- to the audience, after a couple of women were getting a bit too loud: "We
shouldn't be unkind. Its a night out for them. pause And a night off for
their carers".

"Bareback Mountain Cowgirls", no that's a new all-anal porno movie, which
I'm sure will be released shortly.
If you payed to see to both of these movies, and had an inkling of the
subject matter and knew it would offend you, why did you go?
I'm not interested in seeing either of these movies, but I'm sure I'd watch
"Brokeback" over "Rent".
It's supposed to be a great film!
WOW! you payed to see RENT, at the movies!
I'd be ****ed too,

Tom

"Great song man! I wanna release it on my label"
"Fantastic", says the artist.
Hey, did you use Pro Tools or Sonar to record it?"
"I used Sonar for that song"
"Thanks but forget the deal"
OR WORSE.....................
"OK, let's recut it with Pro Tools!"

All 4 now,
Tom

Wouldn't be a problem if they were the "Brokeback Mountain" cowboys.

I thought that was "Bareback Mountain Cowgirls"............
Hide the sheep.

The only movie more disgusting than that one was "Rent"...........
Talk about freaks on parade...
