Hey!

Looking for a pair of matched small-diaphragm condensers. If I had the
cash, I'd go Schoeps and DPA all the way, but my budget is more modest
than that. I need something quiet, forward sounding, transparent, and
detailed...(Don't we all?)

I'm considering trying a matched pair of Peluso CEMC6's out. Not
exactly common inventory. Anyone have experience with them/opinions on
their sound?

How do they compare to the usual suspects? - C451's, KM184's, MK012's,
C42's, etc.

What instruments did they work well on?

How was the self-noise?

How's the bang for the buck?

Were there any preamps that stood out as being good matches with them?

they are great on acoustic instruments, drum overheads, and room mics.
I truly believe they are the best bang for the buck in small diaphragm
condensors.

We sell lots of mics and I am just expressing my opinion for this case.
Not too many companies ENCOURAGE a free demo. Josephson does and
that says alot. Its really tough to "talk" about mics and how they
sound, blah blah blah..... the proof is in the pudding and to each of
our ears.

Yes, good points. Letting people try them for themselves is good
business. And I'm sure they're fine microphones.

I emailed peluso to ask about the schoeps comparisons but never got a reply
, this was weeks ago !

I've done some comparisons with Schoeps CMC6/MK4; Neumann KM140;
Neumann KM 184 and DPA 4011.

I think the C42 sound closest to the KM 184. The MK4s are a little
"darker" and have a more robust bottom end; conversely the 140 is a
little brighter; the 4011s are very transparent with little color; and
the 184s sound similiar to the C42. I have never heard any Peluso
microphones.

Again, mic comparisons are very subjective and opinions vary. I
simply think that for the $ you cant beat the C42 as an all-around
small diaphragm condensor microphone. My .02.
