Default schoeps for guitar

i made a record last week at clinton studios in nyc. quartet- myself
on coustic nylon guitar, chuck redd on vibes, pat o leary on bass and
joe ascione on drums. when the engineer asked me about the setup, i
inquired about the schoeps, yes they have them, so naturally i said
that's the guitar mic. cmc5 with hyper capsule. i can't believe how
natural and alive it sounds, and amazing rejection. It is the absolute
most pleasing recorded sound I've ever had of my guitar. so those of
you who don't believ ty and scott and everyone else, go out and buy the
schoeps, it's worth it. with that in mind (only half joking) if anyone
wants a THE with hypercaridioid capsule and a josephson series 4 i'd be
happy to cut a deal, both are practically brand new. I can dump 2 good
mics and use that bread to get a great one!

the rest of the mics on the session were a neumann m49 for the bass and
akg c24's on vibes and drums. there's a little 421 on snare, but only
a skosh. other than that, everything went through a neve console to
da88. a little 1176 on guitar, maybe a skosh of board eq and that's
it. really fat amazing sound. just goes to show you signal path is
everything.

Congrats on your record!

Man, I was really enjoying this, and then I read "da88."

It was kinda like going on about a roomful of Playboy bunnies and then
bringing up one of Marge Simpson's sisters ;

If there is a next time, track to 2" and listen to playback off one of
their Studers. (Or see if they have some nice outboard converters around
to feed the da88.)

i know what you mean! I did da88 because i'm going to mix it here in
florida and I have a da78 and 38. otherwise i would have gone straight
to 2". It still sounds real good- the limiter on the guitar isn't as
open as i'dlike and i cna't do much about that now! but overall i'm
very pleased. I'll cut some mp3s for some of you guys to hear after i
get some rough mixes going.
