Default CD speed???

Is it possible that a 1 hour long CD is reproduced by some CD players
(without varispeed) in, let's say, 59 minutes and 40 seconds?

Shouldn't be. If you're seeing a problem, get a frequency counter and
see what's coming out of the crystal. It should be much more accurate
than that, but admittedly there is some consumer gear out there that is
pretty badly built.

Not likely. The clock would have to be off by more than 0.5% (1 part in
200), an unbelievably huge error for a crystal-controlled system.

Of course, if the player uses an RC oscillator, that's another matter...

44.1 file played at 48?
(which makes no sense for you scenario but I'm grabbing at straws here...)

Dunno, but maybe different players could take different times between
tracks? So if you had a CD with no inter-track gaps, maybe some CD players
would pause for 2 seconds?

It all started from a friend of mine working in a gym...
She has this 1 hour CD for workout and she noticed that the CD counter
showed 1 hour but in real time it was shorter...
I want to check this out and I'll let you know...

1) I'm sure you've checked that the problem isn't either the clock or
her observation of it, but

2) Are you sure the "1 hour CD" really is a full hour?
