Default Putting order on the home studio.

Hi!

I was wondering if you guys could offer me some guidance in regard to my
home/hobby studio.

I have the following gear:

Mackie 1202vlz mixer
Boss Cl 50 compressor
Presonus Tubepre Mic preamp
Line-6 Pod pro
Behringer Tube Ultrafex processor
" " Ultra Q parametric EQ

Sometimes I'm in a hurry to record some ideas and everything is setup to
transfer my band's rehearsal from MD to PC, when I get the mic pre out
of the closet, find the ac adapter and plug everything in the idea is gone.

So I've been thinking about putting everything in a rack stand and plug
everything into a patchbay, so that all configs are just a patch cable away.
I'm wanting to confirm if with this amount of gear this really a good
idea and if one patchbays will be enough. (thinking about the Behringer
PX1000 or Px3000)

Thanks a lot in advance

Do you plan to use the PC as the recorder?
If so, what A/D - D/A do you have (sound card)?
Do you have recording Software?

And yes, racking it up would be excellent.. you
could probably 'build' one yourself if you are 'handy.
A patchbay like the Behringer PX1000 is a great choice - as it offers
alot of 'switching options'.

What goals are you trying to reach with your home/
hobby studio?

Good luck

I do use my PC as a recorder, I recently got an Edirol UA25 and I am
currently using ProTools free, but I am thinking about getting a copy of
Cubase SX.

This is the one I was most interested in mainly because of it's parallel
mode and bc. it is a balanced patchbay.

I play bass in a band and dabble a little on guitar, I have many friends
who are also musicians and we usually jam together and I like to record
those jams and my band's rehearsal (in those two cases I just use a
stereo microphone with the tube ultrafex on the board inserts)

Another frequent use is to transfer our rehearsal from MD to PC where I
also like to use the Ultrafex to improve the sound and the stereo image/
(Behringer haters remember: this is a hobby studio)

I also sometimes like to record a drum machine track, then later I do a
bass track and either try myself or have someone else record some guitar
and/or melody over it.

I'm thinking that one patchbay could already help a lot but things may
be short especially if I get one multieffect later, I will write all
inputs and outputs down to have a clearer idea...

Good luck

Thanks a lot!
