I need to make up several different connectors for audio I/O for an
Apogee Rosetta 800. This will require 8 balanced connections to a db-25 connector. Some will be terminated with XLR's, some TRS. Some channels will have longer runs than others on the same db-25, so I'm thinking of 8 separate 2 conductor shielded cables (they must all fit into the db25 strain relief) as opposed to a multi-conductor solution. Any suggestions for cable type and supplier? Thanks, Phil -- Phil Oliver Aardvark Graphics & Sound remove _removespam for email replies |

Any suggestions for cable type and supplier? Rapco makes a miniature foil-shielded cable that is a lot more flexible than the usual Belden miniature foil stuff. It's probably easier to terminate than anything else out there. Personally I am very partial to Belden 1804A, which is a miniature star quad cable intended for things like lavalier mikes. It sounds good and has excellent rejection, and it's not expensive. But, because it is braid-shielded, it's a lot harder to terminate especially into the DB-25s because you have to make a pigtail and put heat shrink on it. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. Would it make any sense to use star-quad cable to carry AES/EBU digital audio? I thought that's what we were talking about here, but maybe I read too much into the original message. No, it wouldn't make any sense at all. I gathered he was talking about analogue audio into and out of converters, a la DA-88. The star quad stuff just plain won't work for AES/EBU since it's not even close to 110 ohms. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |
