I was using a borrowed NT1 for a long time, but that was taken back
yesterday. I have a session monday and i need a mic before that. the only thing available out here (in stock) and in budget is the M-audio Luna Also the Solaris if the luna is not worth it, but I dont have any money. The CAD M177 might be available, along with the Behringers. I wanted the SP B1, but thats not in stock, at least 10 daz wait. If I were to pik up the B1 later and the Luna now, do I add versatility to my closet ? thank you for help. I was wanting to lay my hands on scotts review of the Luna in the dec2003 issue of recording mag, bt cant find it online. thanks again Sidhu |

Try it on vocals, you might be surprised. Predrag |

But I will say that the Luna and Solaris are basically the same mike. They are identical to perhaps 80% of the Chinese microphones out there with two exceptions: the grille and the fact that one of them has a figure-8 pattern. The grille changes the sound more than you'd expect. And the model with the figure-8 doesn't have a really good figure-8 but again it has a better pattern than you'd expect from a Chinese mike. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. Sidhu Try setting up an SM-58 (or similar) for the singer to "sing into". Set the 012 about 1/2 meter behind the 58, pointing at the 58. Record (and let the singer monitor) only the 012. Really helps getting rid of the nose stuff and popping at the 012. I bought two 012s a while back, not intending to use them on vox ever. As it happened, there are some folks who these microphones matched up to wonderfully. In fact, one singer now insists on using an 012 with the omni cap all the time. I actually have to get terse with him to convince him to use a Green Bullet occasionally ;-) ==================== Tracy Wintermute Rushcreek Ranch ==================== |

And pull it back. A pop filter is a good idea too but placement can buy you a lot. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |

Thanks for these great tips on how to use the 12 for vocals. Ill check
them out ASAP. In the meantime, Ive managed to locate a dealer with the Rode NT1A in stock and have ordered one. It will be in latest by day after. I took it over the Luna. Was more comfortable doing so. No regrets I hope. Sidhu thanks a ton for all the help. Scott Dorsey wrote: Sidhu wrote: I have tried the 012s on vocals. I understand the 'recording' not wanting to publish it's articles on
the net. But there are no pro audio mags here. So thats why i was looking online. Also while anybody else reviewing a certain peice of gear will almost alwaz not be in identical circumstances as mine, it does offer some sort of a benchmark for decision making. Especially since we dont have the oppertunity of testing out gear for our ownselves, and almost alwaz have to preorder. Building a good rapo with the dealer is a good practice, I agree, and usually not a problem. So thats covered. BTW, I located a dealer with the NT1a in stock and have it ordred. It should be here in a day or two. Also what do you ppl. make of the SP B1 or the C1 vis a vis the NT1A. thanks a ton, as alwaz. Sidhu |
