Am I the only one baffled by this statement? In addition to
Nautilus, ADT and Oram, there were maybe a dozen other mixers that
were either introduced here or are now making the jump from prototype
to actual product. How about Speck, Chandler, Tonelux, API, SPL,
Inner Tube Audio, Tube Tech, Phoenix Audio, etc. A couple of them are
somewhere between full featured line mixers and simple summing boxes,
but most would qualify as mixers. Making this even more strange is
that a few other AES wrap-ups said pretty much the exact opposite -
that this year's AES show will be remembered for all of the new mixing
(and summing) products.

We tend to use the terms "mixer" and "console" interchangeably, but
they're different. A console always has a mixer, but a mixer may not
be a full fledged control surface. If all it does is sums, that's a
special purpose mixer and, while it deserves to be acknowledged, it
isn't going to replace my Soundcraft. (but the new Trident might)
