When dealing with a question about microdrives, Marantz tech
gave me the following information: 1) Always format the microdrive or CF in the PMD670. Don't format them in/with a computer. I formatted the 2Gb MagicStor microdrive in the computer and the 670 would record to it fine, but would not play back. The 670 manual briefly discusses formatting, but there is no _emphasis_ on only formatting in the 670, except for drives over 8Gb. The MagicStor is on Marantz's list of approved microdrives. 2) If you consider one of the Hitachi 4Gb microdrives, do not accept one with a black Hitachi logo. Get only the one with the reddish-orange Hitachi logo. Apparently, the black logo-ed drives were/are used in iPods and have a proprietary formatting for the iPod that the PMD670 can't deal with, and Marantz can't undo. 3) Although the manual states the "if the PMD670 exhibits erratic behavior, the microprocessor can be reset by powering off, disconnecting AC, and removing batteries," in the situation that I had, that technique did not work. There is a power-on key sequence that Marantz will provide to get it going again. Call the number in the manual. Just a heads up. TM |
