I have had consistent errors when using the PMD670, two different SanDisk
512MB CF cards and several different computers. Below is the text of a support e-mail to the vendor. The problem was resolved by using an outboard CF card readers but it can be disconcerting to see file error messages on the only copy you have of a recording. To date there has been no response from Marantz beyond asking if the error happens with the bundled 64MB CF card (which it doesn't). "I have consistently been getting file errors on a PMD670, using SanDisk 512MB media. When I try to transfer the file via USB 1.1 connection to a Win XP machine, I get these error messages: From a DOS windows, "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error" From Windows Explorer: "Error Copying File or Folder" and then "cannot copy 1001: the parameter is incorrect" From the Intervideo WinDVD4 softwa "the file #1 has invalid format" I know that the file is actually good because if I hook it up to my portable drive device (Xs Drive II 20GB file store), I can copy the file and play or edit it. The portable drive does not seem to see the file as being corrupt, yet two different Windows XP computers cannot copy the file from the digital recorder. [Note: the Dazzle CF reader also accesses the file with no problem.] In a previous support call, the tech suggested that the CF card was bad. This is happening with both of my 512MB CF cards, even if I reformat them between use. Any help would be appreciated." Chip Gallo |
