Default +4db -10db soundcard 0db mixer

Just curious, I use SoundDeluxe Audiophile Card with jumper settings
for +4 or -10 db. While I have +4db out on my Yamaha mixer, I would
prefer to bypass the Yamaha electronics by using the preamp inserts.
However, the specs rate these as 0db. I haven't connected anything
yet, any ideas on the best configuration?

Path
AKG 1" condenser or MXL smaller condensers
No preamp
Yamaha mixer
SoundDeluxe Card
Athlon 2.4 1 GB RAM
Cubase VST

Thanks, I am an old "tape" guy looking for a little advice from the
techie world...take it easy on me!

you want to record a direct out from mic insert point thus bypassing all the
EQs and stuff?

one way to do it:
assuming a typical 1/4" TRS insert jack on the Yamaha you wire up a special
cable. use a 3 conductor plug and hardwire the tip and ring together. this
is your + wire. solder the shield to "sleeve".
this unbalanced cable then feeds the soundcard.

soundcard outputs are then wired to a different line input or 2-tk return.

this lets you easily monitor both the inputs and the outputs of the
soundcard.

adjust the input gain pot for desired level into the soundcard.

I can't find any hits in google on either "SoundDeluxe Audiophile" or
"SoundDelux Audiophile". Can you clarify?
