Thanks for the heads-up. Couldn't find any in town, but tracked
down a _The Classics Live_ through Amazon and ordered tonight.

The Delta label also has a 14 song (vs. 18) version of the same
show for $5.98 called _Greatest Hits: Acoustic Live_ and currently
available.

You know what's funny, is that I've been meaning to track it down for
years. I heard it on the radio in 1997. I have to buy it.

There's a lot to like about Mike & his albums with the First National
Band. I always liked his daring as a producer. Their 'roadhouse' cover
of "I Fall To Pieces" was terrific, IMO. Was it on "Magnetic South?"

"Loose Salute".

And one of the coolest things I ever saw on an album jacket was his
recipe for green beer - made only by people who were insane and/or
from Farmers Branch, Texas...

That's the album we started with, "Tantamount to Treason".

I guess someone in Foreigner was a Nesmith fan.

"Live at the Palais" was recorded right here. I wasn't involved, but was in
the front row :-)

Based on two listens, I'd recommend the _The Classics Live_ even if
you have to buy one used. The missing songs are excellent and classic.
(The $10.99-for-new ones from Jersey via Amazon are fine if still
available).

His anti-war songs seem more evocative now than when I was nineteen,
but the high point for me is the "Young Girl Blues", which finally
connects. The anthemic "Atlantis" is also cool.

FWIW, I bless the person who turned me on to Elliott Smith. YMMV.

Thanks again,

Howard Devoto might never get into the Top 40, but he has used words
like:
mise-en-scene
balustrade
haemorrhaging
aromatized

Too bad Luxuria didn't have such a "sweetheart contract".
