... Steve, let's just say that you don't even have a question here that needs answering by anybody but you. Now if you were recording a two guitar Hello Roger, I thought that some of it might come down to simply a personal preference. Even so, one worries about doing something that is inherently wrong or bad without first hearing from other professionals that it is fine (even if it is not normally used or prefered). electric band, you might have something that someone could show you different aspects to, but geez, it's up to what pleases you and whether you can do the playing without the effect if it makes a difference. For In the end, I think it may make a little difference. I may have been trying to compensate in some way while playing without them. I didn't try to bring them back through the monitor section while recording clean (that may have made a difference). instance, playing a guitar through a wah would probably require that you play through a wah on the way in. But you don't do that. You have all the choices and it's just a matter of time until you run into the way you want to do it. My experience will mean nothing to you because it has no relevance to what you're doing, even if we were doing the same song. Cool, like I said, I was hoping that was the case, but I was afraid that I was missing some extremely significant reason against using effects on the way in. If you'd like to see how some of our RAP participants have worked on the songs or groups they do, buy the Fifth of RAP CD listed in my sig. There are pages and pages of working notes from each of the submitters on their submissions. Mics, chains, instruments, etc. This one of our 4 CDs and we have a separate LP available also. For instance, I know that Mark Plancke has stated he has no problems tracking with an effect. Others will say different. The CD will show you what both mean in terms of finished product and that's why we put it out. Hey, that's a cool idea! RMMGA has done CDs too (in fact, I've got a submission on all three of them). Thanks, Steven Dillon |
