Ummmm, forget how to right click and mark read?
I guess that is a little advanced.

Sure. I guess I can pratter on about what I had for breakfast this
morning. Then I can update you on my going out and buying a paper.
Then I'll talk about the phone call I got.

You're a self-absorbed little prat, aren't you?

Right now it's hard to get information about the fires that's current
and specific to one's area. The TV is focused on pictures from the
various field reporters and the newspaper sites empasize the big
picture and not terribly up to date.

Here's a challenge. Find something said on RAO that isn't represented

more
accurately, wiht more detail, and more up-to-date on:

http://www.signonsandiego.com/

especially:

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/fires/ataglance.html

and

http://www.msnbc.com/news

Actually, most of the best information I'm getting is coming from friends
and relatives going out and looking and then calling each other. The next
best comes from blogs and people on the ground--like Scott--who report what
they see and know to everyone else. Right now with things changing by the
minute bottom up beats top down big time. It's what makes the Internet
great, hell, it's what makes democracy great. It's too bad you don't have a
good word for it.

Thanks for the urls, I check them too.

These are exactly what I have been following.
MSNBC (the home page on my pc at home and at work) is short on details, but
is timely on major events
The newspaper is a little better on details, but
not very timely. Scott, keeping up with local radio
and tv, was timely and had more specific info
that was of interest to me.

Ordinarily I might agree with dave, that Scott's frequent updates might not be
of interest to the rest of the group. Then I remember some insensitive
comments made by some, including me, about the DC sniper. In addition, I'm
watching the fires from my front yard, and they've moved within three miles of
where I live, and it's gotten to the point where I'm hosing down my roof
because I'm seeing embers here and there.

In other words, at this moment, I empathize with Scott's concerns.

Just to clarify, I simply said this:

"Ummmm, do we *really* need all of these updates"?

And then Scott ( and a couple of others) felt like he had to jump on
me.

I sympathize with those few of you who are being affected by this. But
to have an ASSHOLE - (yes, guys, I know that you've actually visited
Scott, so you have a different perspective), a guy who's whole life
here on RAO is to be judge, jury and executioner in as few words as
possible, start posting mountains of information about minute to
minute changes in the wind just rubbed me the wrong way. It seemed
self-pitying and self-serving as well. And frankly, I could have been
far more caustic than I was - I simply noted that posting scores of
updates (which is how it seemed to be going) was worth commenting on.

The fact that I gave updates on 9-11 seems to me to be a whole
different dimension of interest to the group. Sure, the fires in So.
Cal. are fairly bad fires of the type that we seem to suffer each year
in different parts of the country. And I didn't really mind a couple
of postings. But to post stuff that probably had specific relevance to
virtually nobody, just seemed like an effort to garner sympathy.

I notice that *you* and Art didn't feel compelled to act like Jesus on
the cross. and yet, I hope that all works out for you, obviously. for
Scott to beat up on me for my comment means that I really *don't* care
so much about whether or not he'll be cooking giant lobsters on his
roof.

That might be your perspective. I'd have to say though that 9-11
affected me (and *everyone* on this group, regardless of what country
they're from) far more than the fires in So. Cal is going to.

The main reason that I continued posting about it was that several
people wrote me privately and said that they were at work and didn't
have access to the media (and so I figured that, given word to the
contrary, there were likely a lot of people in that same boat). And
nobody thought (at least not articulated) that my "reportage" was
excessive. I was *asked* to continue posting what *some* of us were
seeing on CNN and NBC. Not one person said that it was excessive.

If it had bothered you, you should have said something, just like *I*
did.

Even the local news was screwed at times as they were
in information overload. I saw a map of road closures
on KUSI that had an arrow on Highway 78 saying
closed at Pine Bluff Road. Trouble was the arrow was
about where my house is and Pine Bluff Road is about
20 miles east on the other side of Escondido.

Apparently (my kid's info from AIM) his school is closing the
rest of the week due to the smoke.

I understand all of that. I'm not trying to say that one person is right and
the other is wrong. But it is really scary to be in the middle of all this,
and maybe Scott's updates made him feel at least a little bit better.

BTW, I was in Scott's neck of the woods today, and I'm sure I was only a few
miles from the fire. In other words, I traveled almost 140 miles from my
house, where there was fire, to Scott's house, where there was fire. That kind
of puts a perspective on the size of this thing. In Scott's city, you can't
see more than a hundred yards because of the smoke. In my city, you can
clearly see the fire's progress along the top of the hills above my home. I'm
not sure which is more unnerving.

LOL!

Scott's reports were hysterical and inaccurate.

How would you know how accurate they were?

Info from people less than 3 miles from the fires. Plus, the published
reports that must have shot way over your pointed little head, Scott. You
obviously didn't read them. Something about pictures and charts being worth
a thousand words (each), and a thousand words is far more the skimpy
hysterical pieces that you posted.

How would you know how accurate they were?

Info from people less than 3 miles from the fires. Plus, the published
reports that must have shot way over your pointed little head, Scott. You
obviously didn't read them. Something about pictures and charts being

worth
a thousand words (each), and a thousand words is far more the skimpy
hysterical pieces that you posted.

you are ahving another major brain fart!
you are responding to Art

They had more detail than msnbc and the paper, the
sites you offered up.

You're delusional, Scott. All the time. Look at who you call your friends!
More like fiends, if you ask me.

That was a stinky brain fart!

You don't have the right measurement tools, Arny!

I know rank, stinking panic when I read it. You're in love with fiends
because they pay attention to you when you deserve to be ignored.

I know raving, incurable dementia when I see it. You can't keep the
simplest things straight. We certainly can't trust you when things get
complicated.

Must have been incredible fat people since there were
4 individual fires in SD county with locations that went from the
northern end of the county to the Mexican border.

In other words, physical impossibility to be within 3
miles of the "fires".

Arny, you are so sickened by this need to show you know
more disease that you undoubtedly will say anything,
including outright lying, to attempt to put yourself on top.
I can only think you must have incredibly weak self respect.

Such is the life of an Internet geek. They pretend to know everything, yet
they are incredible failures in real life.
