Default Tom Dowd Movie

Hello everyone...

I know that this topic has come up before, but I wanted to post an
update for those who might have missed it.
Last night I saw a screening of the film " Tom Dowd and the Language
of Music" at Skywalker Ranch, and was blown away. I didn't realise the
range of influence he had on music from 1950 on. Truly incredible.
And, it is a wonderful look at the evolution of recording. For anyone
who cares, the DVD is now shipping from Amazon.com, and is also
available for rental. It also is showing on some screens, but I don't
know where. Well worth seeing.

I second that emotion. (Oh, that was from another DVD.)

Yeah, listening to Tom talk, makes me smile, because he obviously loved
life, and loved what he was doing. I, for one, have a long way to go,
but I'm trying.

As for the stuff I did already know, I had always seen his name on many
of my favorite records forever. I knew he had something on the ball.

Seeing him bring up the faders on "Layla" was much like seeing George
Martin bring them up on "Sgt. Pepper".

The DVD was well worth the wait. I'd love to see it in a theatre, and
Skywalker must have really been an incredible experience!

I saw it here in Seattle and the audio component of the film/DVD was
very good. I hardly knew his name but now I'm totally impressed by his
contribution to so many artists. How about that segment when he was
playing back the multi-track Layla master adjusting the levels on the
various tracks, narrating along the way - incredible. This is a great movie!

That was a total Deja-vu for me, because I did the same thing. Atlantic was
throwing away duplicates and safeties, so we took the 2" of Layla and
listened to it.
Duane's playing at the end of that song, was ear-opening. Then we erased it.
