Sorry for the music-related post, but I was just wondering if anyone here has
heard the new William Hung CD. For those of you who don't remember, he was one of the more notorious contestants on American Idol. Truly a terrible singer. Evidently there was some sort of a pity movement behind him because of the way Simon tore him up. Anyway, his new CD is available for listening for free on AOL. He includes such hits as "I Believe I Can Fly" and "Hotel California." I don't really know how to even describe this piece of ****, other than I suspect the thing was orchestrated from the start... "hey lets put a really terrible guy up for Simon to destroy, and then once he rips him a new one, we'll put out an album!" It's very depressing. -John Vice www.summertimestudios.com |

The problem with the album is that's it's neither bad enough nor good enough.
It would have been a hoot if it was like his goofy performance on Idol. --------------------------------------- "I know enough to know I don't know enough" |

I don't believe this has anything to with that. He has press and someone at an indie decided to get involved. --------------------------------------- "I know enough to know I don't know enough" |

He's had more press and more pr than most of us will ever get. And most likely
he will make more money this year than I have in ten. I heard he was going on tour opening for Britney Spears. |

... Yeah... Simon said something like "Well you can't dance and you can't sing, so what's the point?" And William Hung said "I did my best, so I have absolutely NO regrets." That made Paula smile and she said he probably had the best attitude of all the Idol contestants. That was a funny moment. But if these kids are really wanting to get into the business they are going to run into people who make Simon look polite. They're not trying to be rude, but this is business. No use wasting their time and yours and all...But I do have a hard problem telling people. I try to find at least one good thing to focus on or complement them on and offer positive criticism for the other stuff. But it also isn't good (even for the "performer") for you to act like they might could make it when you know they're never going to make it or even come close. I'm for following dreams and all, but not professionaly. And not if those dreams aren't attainable. I think just because you aren't "talented" technically doesn't mean you can't be entertaining. It took me the longest time to understand "entertainer". I remember as a kid getting ticked off usually every time the "Entertainer of the Year" in any give genre was announced. I was like, "they have no talent at all! they're the worst of the lot!, etc.". But I finally realized they had talent, it just wasn't musical talent (even though they were "singing", etc.) Entertaining an audience is a gift and art form all in itself. I've seem many great musicians that were "boring" to the general audience. But anybody that is good at entertaining has worked their butt of somewhere along the long and I respect them. |

No use wasting their time and yours and all... Years ago I heard an interview with the lady who ran the comedy club where Sam Kinnison was discovered, and she said something that I thought was very valid - "Never encourage someone who doesn't have talent". The idea being that you're not doing them any favors. But then again, some might say some very famous recording "artists" aren't all that talented. There was a SNL skit recently "American Idol for people already famous for singing". I thought it was a hoot. |

I don't know about recent ones, but the contract Kelly Clarkson had to sign in order to be a finalist took away any hope she had of profiting from a real career, she signed away her likeness, anything she sang or said or did, anything she MIGHT have sung or said or done, anything her likeness might have... etc... When the FOX gets into the chickenhouse _everything_ gets eaten, the hens, the chicks, the eggs and the rooster, too. Nice. I wonder how much publicity she might have garnered had she told them to stuff that last round, and then had her agent tell the world why she did that? That'd take courage, but right here we're seeing the complete rape of creativity and talent. This is precisely the type of greed for which the music business at some levels has earned a reputation that gets them no respect from what might be a majority of their potential customers. -- ha |

...And Mcdonald's has the biggest selling hamburger....yummm. And fries. When my kid was around a year old I gave him a couple of fries one day when I was at McDonalds. Next time I drove by McDonald's I heard this "tsm tsm tsm" noise from the carseat in back.. "Hmm..." Next time I drove past the place, again, "tsm, tsm, tsm" from the back.. "Naaah, couldn't be." After the third time though there was no doubt, after having fries at McDonald's ONE time he remembered those "Golden Arches" and he was saying he sure liked those fries! He's a pretty funny kid, and by 2 he knew all the store and restaurant names on our local strips by what their Logo looks like. The name of the software is auto tune. It's like like peoiple didn't do manual tune before that or have studio singers double the lead vocals. --------------------------------------- "I know enough to know I don't know enough" |
