Default Need Shockmount for a U87

Hello all...

I am a U87 in the NYC area looking for a good shockmount to be my soul
mate. I would like to avoid parting with $270-$400 of my hard earned
$$ for a brand new one, so a used one in good condition would be a
good match.

Please contact me at so we can begin our new
life together.

Must enjoy long walks on the beach etc. etc. :-)

If you can live with a non neumann mount you can use a marshall mlx-v 67
mount and you can find them at musiciansfriend.com for about $35

Danny,

I've tested the MXL-57 shock mount with a U 87; it is far too stiff to
be effective. In addition, the clip mechanism interferes with (i.e.
it
touches, under tension) the elastics, such that the inner sleeve is
not
at all well isolated from the support structure.

I think this just the "797 Audio" LQ-7 shock mount, where they say,
"It is
a most ideal sound picking up device that can be used ensures high
quality
sound reproduction efficiency. Especially, you will be happy to find
that
the price of this microphone is the inconceivability." Indeed.

It should be possible to build a far better shock mount than this for
not
much more money. I agree that Neumann's (and Schoeps', and ...) list
prices for shock mounts are discouragingly high, but until something
more
economical comes along that actually works, let's not "cut off our
nose
to spite our face" ... whatever that means.

--best regards

P.S.: B.L.U.E. has a serious-looking alternative for $175--see
http://www.vintagemicrophone.com/JShop/ . I have a pair of their
shock mounts for the AKG C 414 series, which certainly work well.

I think that's right out of the manual for a '65 Honda 250 Scrambler.

Would you trust a U-87 in the clutches of that thing? Never tried one, so
I'm just asking... looks a little flimsy to me for a fairly heavy mic.

Actually it is very safe, and works well. The advantage is that this
suspension holds about any microphone.

You can also use the Rode shcokmount that comes with the NT2. I use it
on my U87 and before that on my TLM193. Never had any problems and
grabs well. In fact in all the years I have yet to break a rubberband.
The spare ones are still in my Rode case.

No, it didn't work for me, so I pasted it into Google, and then erased
everything after "com", which got me to their homepage, after which I
followed the link to parts and accesories, and finally the link to "mounts",
which got me to the page listed above, even down to the url. So, apparently
you can't get there unless you go in through the front door.

Call John himself, he seems like a decent enough guy and is straightforward
as to what's made where if you have any questions... I got a capsule from
him not long ago & I asked him about where they made them, and he said
without hesitation that they did the machine work in China and that he did
the mylar sputtering and subsequent assembling at his facility. I believe
he said they get the mylar from Germany.
