So for Christmas I got a pair of Sony MDR-V700 and MDR-V600 from two
different family members after they heard that I was on the lookout for
a good pair of studio headphones. I'm looking for something to
reference my monitors against, something with, among other things, a
nice flat frequency response. But I think the only good use for these
is with my iPod. I didn't mean to plug that as a gift idea; I made
sure to pretext everyone that this kind of equipment is very
specialized and couldn't be bought at Best Buy (or even GC for that
matter). Anyway, now I have these two headphones and I'm wondering
what the general group opinion is: I see that the V700 is marketed as
the 'professional DJ headphone,' so I'm assuming the bass hype is out
of this world. What about the 600's? Is there any hope?

Obviously, from what you've read... you could return them both, pick up
a set of 7506s and have some spending money left over.

For those who think the bass sounds hyped on their mixes, there's probably
really to much much low end trash in there... and you can *hear* it. For those
who think they're hyped on the high end, again there's either too many highs in
the source or they're being operated at too high of a volume level.

At modest listening levels, the 7506 is one of the smoothest representations in
cans of what's in my mains, that I've ever had the pleasure to compare.. given
the price category.
